Local Mom To Open New Clinic & Sensory Gym

Local Mom To Open New Clinic & Sensory Gym
Written by Nicole Ball for Hamlethub.com

therapynestI love our town. Our neighbors are not only talented, but also dedicated to pursuits that provide valuable assets to our community. I recently had the chance to chat with Rye resident, Rachel Fleming, who started the pediatric occupational therapy clinic, The Therapy Nest. Here’s her story:

Who are you and what do you do?

“I am a pediatric occupational therapist, and, in May 2014, I started The Therapy Nest to provide occupational therapy services to children (infants through adolescents) in Rye and surrounding communities. As an occupational therapist, I help children succeed in their daily occupations (developing early developmental skills, improving handwriting skills, learning new motor skills, improving sensory processing skills). I recently decided to open a full-service pediatric occupational therapy clinic (including a sensory gym) in Rye Ridge Shopping Center. The new space will be open at the end of this summer.”

How did you get started?

“I graduated with my Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia. I moved to Manhattan in 2008 and worked in a private therapy clinic in Brooklyn for 5 years before moving to Rye in 2013. My husband and I moved to Rye to raise our children; however, it is important for me to continue working with children and their families. I started The Therapy Nest to provide high quality, very individualized occupational therapy to the community.”

Why is what you do important?

“I love helping children overcome obstacles. Children genuinely love their OT sessions and quickly build confidence to try new activities and develop new skills. I also really enjoy working with each child’s family to integrate therapy strategies into the child’s daily life. I am also available to work with children’s teachers and other therapists to collaborate and help each child meet his or her goals.”
