News travels fast, especially among fashion-savvy girls and their mothers. When word got out that Mixology Clothing Company opened in the Rye Ridge Shopping Center earlier this month, mothers and daughters flocked to the new store.

On a recent Sunday afternoon, several families of girls perused the racks of sparkling dresses, hi-low skirts, metallic sweaters, jumpers, pants, jackets, tees, and more. One girl, wearing a pair of black velvet shorts purchased earlier in the day, was back for the second time.

Mixology is next door to Starbucks. This is Mixology’s fifth store, and first in Westchester. Other locations are Long Island, the Hamptons, and Westport, Conn.

Catering to all ages, the store features popular brands such as MinkPink, Motel Rocks, Free People, Gab & Kate, Gypsy Junkies, Brooklyn Karma, UNIF, and Decker.

On opening weekend, top sellers were going-out tops, party dresses, leather jackets, and sweaters, according to owner Jonathan Shapiro.

“We carefully curate a collection of styles that teens, young adults, and moms can all wear,” said Shapiro. While the store is busy in the mornings with mothers and after school with daughters, Shapiro says that on the weekends everyone shops together and the music, energy, and fun are really on display.

Mixology covers all bases and also sells accessories, handbags, jewelry, leggings, and tanks. For more information, call 481-1771.

Long Island camp friends and Westport, Connecticut pals have long raved about this trendy juniors’ and women’s boutique’s fun style and easy-on-the-pocketbook prices. Now, local fashion addicts have their own chance to mix it up at this small chain’s first outpost in Westchester. Located in the former Pink Deux spot in the Rye Ridge Shopping Center—that beauty boutique has moved elsewhere in the center—Mixology bills itself as a boutique without “high prices and snobby attitudes.” Offerings range from $10 Mixology sunglasses to a $275 mustard-colored suede blazer by BB Dakota, with a mid-price of $55 for a hip, striped, long-sleeve V-neck shirt. In addition to the store’s own boho-chic brand, including casual tees (up to $36), platform booties (up to $55), and sexy bandage dresses (up to $96), the shop features the edgy Mink Pink line of fringe and graphic tops and denim vests ($45-$110), Free People feminine-patterned blouses and patchwork denim jackets (up to $248), and hot plaid tops and jackets from Lucca Couture (up to $112).
