Rye Radiology Achieves Honor

Rye Radiology achieves honor from American College of Radiology

ryeradiology260This year, the American College of Radiology (ACR) has initiated a new breast MRI accreditation program for radiology practices in the United States. Rye Radiology in Rye Brook has recently been honored with this ACR Accreditation specifically for breast MRI. Breast MRI is utilized in screening high-risk women for breast cancer since it finds cancers not seen on mammography or ultrasound.
Rye Radiology was the first practice in Westchester County to be awarded an “ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.” Rye Radiology is a long established private practice that has been caring for patients from New York, Connecticut and New Jersey since 1961. The breast MRI accreditation is in addition to their ACR Accreditation for general MRI imaging on joints, head, spine, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and angiography.
Rye Radiology is equipped to perform MRI guided core breast biopsies of suspicious breast lesions, which appear only on MRI and are not seen on mammography or breast ultrasound. MRI looks for breast cancers differently from mammography since it looks at the early blood supply of a tumor rather than just the anatomy of the breast. When having a breast MRI, it is important for patients to choose to have the exam at a facility that not only is accredited, but is able to perform an MRI guided biopsy should one be necessary so that the diagnostic breast MRI does not have to be repeated.
This breast MRI honor is the most recent achievement of high practice standards for Rye Radiology as the practice is already an ACR Accredited in Mammography, general Ultrasound, Breast Ultrasound, general CT, general MRI and is an ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.
The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of its practice. The accreditation process includes extensive image quality and procedure evaluations by experts in the field of radiology. The ACR program evaluates personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
